AIESEC in Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) successfully held Global Village 2.0, the first international cultural festival in Medan City, on Sunday, July 27, 2025.
Carrying the theme “Global Village 2.0: Odyssey of Cultures – A One-Day Theatrical Journey Beyond Borders,” the event invited the people of Medan to open themselves to and embrace diversity. Through a vibrant showcase of music performances, traditional dances, authentic cuisines, and art exhibitions presented by participants of the Global Volunteer cultural exchange program, the festival radiated a strong spirit of internationalism, social harmony, and cultural appreciation.
The event was organized by AIESEC in USU, a student-led international youth organization focused on leadership development and intercultural exchange. The organizers consisted of students from Universitas Sumatera Utara, together with Global Volunteer participants from multiple countries. These international delegates became the heart of the festival, proudly presenting the traditions, art, and heritage of their respective nations.
Held at the Raja Inal Siregar Hall, Office of the Governor of North Sumatra, the festival gathered both local and international participants in a vibrant atmosphere of collaboration and cultural exchange. Through this initiative, AIESEC in USU demonstrated its commitment to internationalization and openness to cultural diversity.
The main goal behind Global Village 2.0 was to promote tolerance, cross-cultural collaboration, and global awareness among students and the wider community. More than just a celebration, Global Village serves as a transformative platform that enables USU students to expand their global perspectives and enhance their leadership capacity through cultural learning and social collaboration.
By facilitating intercultural dialogue and exchange, the program allowed participants to explore traditions, values, and social norms from different parts of the world, fostering empathy and mutual understanding.
Moreover, Global Village 2.0 actively supported the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by addressing key global issues such as social inclusion, cross-cultural education, and community capacity building. Through hands-on engagement and collaboration, students gained invaluable experiences while expanding their international networks and competencies.
The success of Global Village 2.0 AIESEC in USU stands as a tangible reflection of USU’s internationalization efforts, providing meaningful, high-impact learning experiences. The festival not only celebrated cultural diversity but also strengthened unity, tolerance, and global collaboration within society — affirming that diversity is a bridge, not a barrier, to shared growth and understanding.
