About Directorate of Student Affairs and Alumni Universitas Sumatera Utara

The Directorate of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations at Universitas Sumatera Utara serves as the university unit responsible for student extracurricular activities, including training, development, achievement, welfare, and alumni relations. Its responsibilities cover university-level activities such as ministry-sponsored and independent competitions, student activity proposals, scholarships, and tracer studies that track the career paths and outcomes of alumni.

To support student development and advancement, the following programs are implemented:

Reasoning and Scientific Development, aimed at fostering scientific attitudes, stimulating creativity and innovation, improving students’ research and scientific writing skills, enhancing their understanding of professional fields, and developing their ability to work collaboratively in teams.
Talent, Interests, and Skills Development, aimed at improving students’ practical management and organizational skills, while fostering appreciation for sports and the arts, scouting, national defense awareness, environmental appreciation, journalism, and community service.
Student Welfare, aimed at improving the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of students.
Social Awareness, aimed at strengthening community engagement, fostering national unity, nurturing love for the country and the environment, and developing awareness of responsible and dignified participation in society, the nation, and the state.
Supporting Activities, aimed at enhancing lecturers’ attitudes and capabilities in mentoring student activities, as well as developing programs to improve facilities and infrastructure that support student activities.

In line with these objectives, the Directorate of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations at Universitas Sumatera Utara is expected to prepare students to become high-quality, high-achieving, ethical, and entrepreneurial human resources through programs focused on talent development, interests, and scientific reasoning.

All of these student development programs are expected to strengthen students’ competitiveness, train them to solve problems and make decisions, and enhance their soft skills.

To become a directorate capable of preparing USU students to become high-quality human resources with strong character, outstanding achievements, ethical values, and an entrepreneurial spirit, enabling them to compete in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

History

1970

Sejarah Directorate of Student Affairs and Alumni USU

Universitas Sumatera Utara has had a dedicated unit responsible for student affairs since 1970, originally known as the Student Affairs Bureau. In line with evolving needs, the management and organizational structure of student affairs have continued to undergo changes and improvements. At that time, student affairs were managed by the Bureau of Student Administration, which operated under the leadership of the Third Assistant Rector.

In 2008, the Bureau of Student Administration was renamed the Student Affairs and Alumni Bureau (BKK).

2014

Sejarah Directorate of Student Affairs and Alumni USU

In 2014, USU was designated as a State University with Legal Entity Status (PTN-BH) under Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 16 of 2014 concerning the Statute of Universitas Sumatera Utara. Consequently, the position of Assistant Rector was changed to Vice Rector. Following this change in status, the Student Affairs and Alumni Bureau (BKK), which had previously operated under the Third Assistant Rector, was placed under the authority of the First Vice Rector. Currently, the BKK is located on the first floor of the USU Central Administration Bureau Building.
