DITMAWALUMNI USU – Joice Anita Siburian, a student of the English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), won a Bronze Medal in an essay competition held in Bandung, West Java, on October 3–4, 2026.
Joice participated in the competition individually, competing against participants from more than 20 universities across Indonesia as well as several schools. This achievement represents one of USU students’ accomplishments in developing their academic abilities and expressing their ideas through essay writing.
In preparing for the competition, Joice said that the process went relatively smoothly and did not take up too much of her time, as she had previously participated in similar competitions. Nevertheless, she encountered an issue with a ticket booking error that nearly prevented her from attending the presentation.
Thanks to her efforts and a smooth journey, Joice eventually arrived safely at the venue and participated in the competition, ultimately earning a Bronze Medal. The experience provided a valuable lesson on the importance of preparation, careful travel planning, and the courage to pursue opportunities for achievement despite challenges along the way.

Joice hopes that her achievement will inspire other students at Universitas Sumatera Utara to continue creating, developing their potential, and having the confidence to participate in various competitions.
This achievement reflects the enthusiasm of FIB USU students in developing their academic abilities and participating in national-level competitions.
