DITMAWALUMALUMNI USU – Three students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), who are members of the HerbaCorn Team, won the Best Poster award in the Entrepreneurship Research category at the 12th UTU Awards International. The competition was held from September 21–23, 2026, in Meulaboh, West Aceh Regency, Aceh Province.
The HerbaCorn Team consists of Keyline Karina Pinem (Student ID 240802048), Sella Rosmadhani Siregar (Student ID 230802005), and Miftahulsanah Saliska (Student ID 240802020). All three are students of the Chemistry Study Program, FMIPA USU, and participated as an independent team.
The achievement marks a proud accomplishment for the HerbaCorn Team after going through a series of selection stages, from preparing a research proposal to presenting their work before the judging panel. Out of hundreds of proposals submitted, the team was selected as one of 15 finalists and earned the opportunity to compete directly in the final round in Aceh.
In preparation for the competition, the HerbaCorn Team developed its proposal based on previous HerbaCorn research. After submitting the required documents and being selected as a finalist, the team continued its preparations by developing presentation materials in PowerPoint and conducting practice sessions to improve their delivery skills and confidence.
For the team members, participating in the international competition was a valuable experience. Their enthusiasm, nervousness, and concerns throughout the competition became part of a process that encouraged them to face challenges with greater confidence and deliver their best performance.
The HerbaCorn Team expressed its gratitude and pride for representing Universitas Sumatera Utara, particularly the Chemistry Study Program, FMIPA, in the competition. They also appreciated the team’s support and collaboration, which became one of their strengths in navigating each stage of the competition.
“It was an extraordinary experience for us to compete directly in the final round in Aceh after competing against hundreds of other proposals. We are very grateful to have been selected as one of the 15 finalists and to have gained such a meaningful experience,” said a representative of the HerbaCorn Team.
They also expressed their appreciation to Universitas Sumatera Utara, FMIPA USU, their parents, academic supervisors, and friends who provided prayers and support from the preparation stage through the end of the competition.
Going forward, the HerbaCorn Team hopes to continue developing its potential, improving the quality of its work, and participating in other competitions to achieve even greater accomplishments. They also hope that USU and the faculty will continue to provide support and facilities for students to develop innovations and achieve success at the international level.
The HerbaCorn Team’s achievement reflects the enthusiasm of FMIPA USU students for advancing research and entrepreneurship while encouraging the development of innovations capable of competing at both the national and international levels.
