The 1st USU Games was officially opened on Thursday, October 31, 2019, by the Rector of the Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. Runtung, SH., M. Hum. In his remarks, the USU Record advised students to maintain the value of sportsmanship and cohesiveness among themselves. "Keep maintaining cohesiveness and sportsmanship even though you are competing to become champions", said Prof. Runtung.
Also present at the opening ceremony were USU Vice Rectors I, II, III, IV and V, Head of USU Student Affairs and Alumni Affairs Bureau dra. Cut Orrnila, M.Si, Expert staff of USU Rector, M. Husni, SH, M.Hum, Dr. Budi Utomo, SP, MP, Chairman of USU Games Committee I Doli Muhammad Jafar Dalimunthe, SE, M.Si. In his remarks, Doli emphasized that this USU games activity is the first USU student event with a wide selection of competitions, including sports, arts, e-sports, and student ambassadors to student debates.
In detail, Doli explained that participants can participate in sports competitions such as futsal, basketball, volleyball, archery, table tennis, field tennis, chess, and badminton. Participants can choose Karate, Taekwondo and Pencak Silat for the Martial Arts Competition. "There are so many types of competitions that can be followed in this USU games; we provide opportunities for each Faculty to send as many delegates as possible to actively participate in this prestigious event at USU," said Doli.
