Outstanding Student Selection 2026: Recognizing Top Achievers at the University Level
Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) once again organized the 2026 Outstanding Student Selection (Pemilihan Mahasiswa Berprestasi/Pilmapres) as an annual event to recognize students with exceptional achievements in both academic and non-academic fields. This initiative is part of the university’s commitment to encouraging students to develop their potential holistically, innovatively, and with global competitiveness.
The implementation of Pilmapres USU 2026 follows the official guidelines set by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), emphasizing the integration of academic performance, scientific work, outstanding achievements, and English communication skills.
This year, Pilmapres USU was participated in by 17 students, consisting of 15 undergraduate and 2 diploma students. All participants had previously undergone a series of selection stages at the faculty level, including administrative screening, evaluation of achievement portfolios, as well as interviews and creative idea presentations. The selection process was conducted objectively, transparently, and professionally by faculty-level judges to determine the best representatives at the university level.
The highlight of Pilmapres USU 2026 was marked by the Awarding Day, held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the Hall of the Faculty of Nursing, USU. The event served as the official announcement and awarding ceremony for the best students at the university level across both undergraduate and diploma programs.
Based on the assessment by a panel of seven judges, considering three main aspects—creative ideas or innovative products, English proficiency, and outstanding achievements—the winners were determined as follows:
For the undergraduate category, first place was awarded to Atiqa Zhakira Syahrul from the Faculty of Economics and Business. Second place was secured by Siti Nur Salsabila from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, while third place was awarded to Vanecia Thania Ruth Pakpahan from the Faculty of Public Health.
Meanwhile, in the diploma category, first place was awarded to Patrick Nicxon Hutabarat from the Accounting Study Program, and second place was awarded to Arya Dwi Ardhana Wibowo from the Statistics Study Program.
The Director of Student Affairs and Alumni of USU, Prof. Dr. Ir. Agus Purwoko, S.Hut., M.Si., IPU, in his remarks, emphasized that outstanding students play a crucial role in shaping high-quality and competitive graduates.
“Outstanding students produce successful alumni,” he stated.
Through this Pilmapres event, Universitas Sumatera Utara hopes to continue producing outstanding students who are able to compete at both national and international levels, while also inspiring other students to excel and contribute to the advancement of the nation.
