Shining on the International Stage: 22 Medals at the 9th Gewinn Malaysia Open International Taekwondo Championship 2026

The Taekwondo Student Activity Unit (UKM) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) achieved remarkable accomplishments at the 9th Gewinn Malaysia Open Taekwondo Championship 2026 by winning several gold, silver, and bronze medals across various competition categories. This achievement reflects the spirit, hard work, and dedication of the student athletes in bringing pride to USU at the international level.
The Secretary of the Directorate of Student Affairs and Alumni of USU, Dr. Fatwa Imelda, S.Kep., Ns., M.Biomed., expressed appreciation to all athletes who had fought to bring honor to the university. She hoped that this achievement would motivate other students to continue excelling in both academic and non-academic fields.
The Taekwondo Student Activity Unit (UKM) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) once again brought pride to the university through outstanding achievements at the 9th Gewinn Malaysia Open Taekwondo Championship 2026. In the international competition, USU athletes successfully brought home numerous gold, silver, and bronze medals across various categories.
Outstanding achievements were earned by A. Harpindo Ginting from the Faculty of Public Health, who won a gold medal in the Senior Light 66–76 Kg Male Kyurugi category and a silver medal in the Speed Punch category. Firman Frananta Sebayang from the Faculty of Agriculture also contributed two gold medals through the Junior Middle 76–86 Kg Male Kyorugi category and the Jumping Front Kick category.
Gold medals were also secured by Anatasya Ronatama Sitorus from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in the Knife Hand Chop category, Novia Agatha Milala from the Faculty of Economics and Business in the Senior Bantam 57–66 Kg Female Kyorugi category, and Federico Haganta from the Faculty of Economics and Business in the Junior Bantam 56–66 Kg Male Kyorugi category.
In addition, Aisyah Zahratul Jannah from the Faculty of Agriculture won gold in the Senior Middle 76–86 Kg Female Kyorugi category, Saut Martua Pardede from the Faculty of Agriculture in the Turning Kick category, Ira Nurhidayah from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences in the Speed Kick category, Feldicio Haganta Ginting from the Faculty of Law in the Senior Heavy 86+ Kg Kyorugi category, and Leonard Jhosua Hutabarat from the Faculty of Engineering in the Senior Middle 76–86 Kg Male Kyorugi category.
In the silver medal category, Leonard Jhosua Hutabarat won a medal in the Knife Hand Chop category, Anatasya Ronatama Sitorus in the Junior Bantam 57–66 Kg Female Kyorugi category, Federico Haganta in the Speed Kick category, Muhammad Arif Mahardika from the Faculty of Forestry in the Senior Bantam 56–66 Kg Male Kyurugi category, and Ira Nurhidayah in the Senior Fin 46–56 Kg Female Kyorugi category.
Meanwhile, bronze medals were earned by Novia Agatha Milala in the Speed Punch category, Aisyah Zahratul Jannah in the Power Punch category, Muhammad Arif Mahardika in the Back Kick category, Saut Martua Pardede in the Senior Fin Under 56 Kg Male Kyorugi category, and Feldicio Haganta Ginting in the Power Punch category.
A. Harpindo Ginting stated that his success was achieved through maintaining a balance between academic and non-academic activities. He admitted that he always organized his schedule carefully and had been practicing taekwondo since childhood.
On the other hand, Feldicio Haganta Ginting shared motivational advice, encouraging students not to give up easily in pursuing achievements. According to him, every result should be accepted positively and used as motivation for continuous growth.
